Two suspects are arrested and a third, armed with a handgun, was shot by a Milwaukee Police officer as the suspects robbed a pharmacy on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side.
Preliminary information indicates that around 9:50 a.m. on April 15, two masked suspects entered the Walgreen’s at 6707 W. Hampton Avenue. A third suspect, the getaway driver, remained outside. An on-duty, Milwaukee Police officer in plain clothes noticed the suspicious behavior and based on a trend of recent pharmacy robberies realized a robbery was taking place. The officer entered the store where he confronted an armed suspect. During the encounter, the officer fired one round striking the suspect who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene. The two other suspects were taken into custody.
The officer involved is a 22-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department assigned to District 7. He is 57 years-old and was not injured during the incident. As is protocol, he will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
Pursuant to State law, the Wisconsin Department of Justice responded to the scene and will lead the investigation. Further inquiries should be directed to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
