Two Charged in Connection with Gun Used in Shooting of MPD Officer

The Milwaukee Police Department has investigated the origin of the firearm that was used to shoot Officer Brandon Baranowski on July 17. Two people have been federally charged and arrested. Emanuel Romo (W/M, 11/17/1991), of West Allis, has been charged with making false statements to a licensed firearms dealer during acquisition of a firearm, providing a firearm to a person who is under indictment for a felony, and being anunlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm. Alonso Sandoval (W/M, 05/12/1994), of Milwaukee, has been charged with aiding and abetting Romo’s false statements during the acquisition of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. The investigation into how the firearm was transferred to Tomas Uriegas, the man who shot Officer Baranowski, is ongoing.

Chief Flynn made the following comment: “The excellent work of the MPD Intelligence Fusion Center along with the ATF Task Force in tracing this crime gun, will allow us to hold accountable the individuals indirectly responsible for wounding our officer. My hope is that serious federal charges will result in actual justice and deter others who attempt to arm criminals.”
