Suspect Shot by Police After Pointing Gun at Officer

The Milwaukee Police Department is on the scene of an officer involved shooting in the 2600 block of N 49 Street.

At 7:46pm, officers were flagged down for a subject with a gun. Officers located the man in the process of an armed robbery with a pistol in his hand. The subject refused the officers commands drop the weapon but instead raised and pointed the weapon at the officers. One officer fired his weapon at the suspect striking him in the lower extremities.

The officer involved in the shooting is 24 years old with five years of service with the department. All officers were working foot patrol in the neighborhood and in full police uniform. The suspect, a 22-year-old male with lengthy criminal record is being treated at a local hospital for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The officer involved was placed on administrative duties per department policy pending the investigation.
