Police Van Hit, Officer Injured

A police officer from District Four of the Milwaukee Police Department was injured after the police van he was in was struck by a car. Officers were on their way to the 8500 block of N. 107th Street for an entry in progress call at about 12:00 p.m. on October 30 when the crash happened. The van was traveling behind a squad car near the intersection of N. 99th Street and W. Good Hope Road when the striking vehicle, a 2001 Buick LeSabre, failed to obey a red light and hit the van. The van spun around and hit a traffic pole. Two passengers from the striking vehicle fled on foot. One of the passengers, a 21-year-old man, was taken into custody. Police are still searching for the other suspect. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman from Milwaukee, and another female passenger remained at the scene and were taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver was issued a citation. A Milwaukee Police Officer, a 54-year-old man with 24 years of service, was also taken to a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury and is expected to be treated and released.
