Officer Shows Great Restraint When Confronted by Armed Suspect

District 5 Police Officer Dustin Langfeldt was assisting a stranded motorist in the 4100 block of N. 7 Street on Sept. 6, 2012 when he heard two gunshots from a nearby house. Officer Langfeldt immediately directed the motorist to seek safety behind his vehicle and then he went to the house to investigate.

As Officer Langfeldt approached the side door of the house man ran out and told him that his intoxicated father shot his dog and then pointed the loaded handgun at him. Moments later, the still armed 64-year-old man ran out, clearly searching for his son in an attempt to harm him. Officer Langfeldt, showing great restraint and calm, confronted the man and ordered him to drop his 9mm handgun. The suspect complied and Officer Langfeldt took him into custody.

The suspect is a felon and was arrested for mistreatment of an animal, felon in possession of a firearm and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon-domestic violence related and while intoxicated.
