An off-duty Milwaukee Police officer helped solve a burglary investigation after she noticed the suspect in a nearby neighborhood. District Four officers responded to the 5300 block of N. 13th Street around 12:45 p.m. on July 18 for a report of a burglary. The caller told officers he arrived at his relative’s home and saw a suspect inside the home. As the caller approached the home, the suspect, wearing a blue shirt, blue shorts, and orange shoes, fled from the scene on foot. Officers noticed that a cell phone was missing from the home and other items were moved around. An off-duty officer spotted the described suspect in the area of N. Green Bay Avenue and W. Hampton Avenue and alerted her fellow officers. The suspect, still in his shorts and shoes, was taken into custody in the 1800 block of W. Fairmount Avenue a short time later and had the stolen cell phone on him. The suspect, a 26-year-old Milwaukee man, is a convicted felon and has a criminal history dating back to 2006. MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
