An off-duty Milwaukee Police Lieutenant helped solve an attempted carjacking on the Northwest Side after following the suspect. District Four officers responded to a parking lot in the 10300 block of W. Silver Spring Drive around 4:05 p.m. on February 29 for a report of an attempted armed robbery. The victim, a 51-year-old Milwaukee woman, was sitting in her car when a male suspect approached her, knocked on the window, pointed a gun at her, and demanded she get out of the vehicle. The suspect even tried to open the car door but it was locked. The victim honked the horn and the suspect fled. The horn caught the attention of an off-duty Milwaukee Police Lieutenant who followed the suspect and relayed information to District Four personnel. The suspect, a 17-year-old Milwaukee male, was arrested a short time later in the 5600 block of N. 96th Street. Officers also recovered a .38 special Smith and Wesson revolver that is believed to have been used in the crime. MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
