Good teamwork by officers from District 7 of the Milwaukee Police Department and an alert citizen lead to the arrest of a burglary suspect. Officers responded to the 3100 block of N. 80th Street around 5:30 pm on January 13 after a citizen reported a suspicious person and car near a residence. When officers went to the home, they noticed damage to both the rear and front door where a suspect had entered. Officers notified the homeowner who told them she did not know if any property had been taken. While investigating this crime, another possible burglary in progress was broadcast over police radio a short distance away in the 3800 block of N. 80th Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a car matching the vehicle description from the first incident. The person driving the car was a 19-year-old Milwaukee man. In the trunk of the car, a musical instrument with sheet music that had the name of the homeowner whose home had been broken into was found. The homeowner confirmed that the instrument was missing and the suspect was taken into custody. The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
