Hundreds of law enforcement officers all across the state volunteered on Friday, August 11 for the annual Dunkin’ Donuts Cop on a Rooftop event to raise money for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
Nearly two-dozen Milwaukee Police Officers came in off-duty to stake out the Milwaukee locations. Officers greeted customers and gave out coupons for free coffee while collecting thousands of dollars in donations.
Special Olympics Wisconsin is nonprofit organization that provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Currently, nearly 10,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 18,500 young athletes 2 to 7 year olds, with and without disabilities, participate in Special Olympics programs in Wisconsin.
The Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser and the Special Olympics program allow all of the athletes to participate at no cost. Through the training and competition, athletes enhance their physical fitness, motor skills, self-confidence and social skills. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the cause.
