MPD Officers Save Man from Attempted Suicide

Officers from District Six of the Milwaukee Police Department and the Crisis Assessment Response Team successfully talked a depressed and suicidal man down from a bridge on the South Side. Officers responded to the bridge near S. 35th Street and W. Forest Home Avenue around 11:55 a.m. on December 4. A 32-year-old Milwaukee man was sitting on the bridge with pill bottles next to him. He was threatening to jump. Officers talked to the man for about forty minutes before they were finally able to persuade him to come off the bridge. He was then transported to Milwaukee County Mental Health for further treatment. The man later told officers that he was considering “suicide by cop” during the incident but that he got off the ledge because he trusted the police.
