Milwaukee Police are investigating a crash/shots fired incident that happened around 3:20 a.m. in the 700 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue. Two MPD Detectives, a 39-year-old male with 14 years of service and a 43-year-old male with 10 years of service, both assigned to the Sensitive Crimes Division, were traveling northbound on N. James Lovell Street when two reckless vehicles drove west through the intersection at the same time in both of lanes of W. Wisconsin Avenue. Both reckless vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed and disregarded a red traffic signal. The vehicle being driven the wrong way on W. Wisconsin Avenue, a Chrysler 200, struck the detectives’ squad and lost control. That suspect vehicle crashed into a building in the 700 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue. The driver of the wrecked vehicle exited that car and was picked up by the driver of the second vehicle that then fled. As that vehicle fled, an occupant fired multiple shots at the detectives with one of the shots striking the unmarked squad car. The 43-year-old Detective was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries suffered in the crash and was treated and released. The other Detective was not injured. MPD continues to seek the occupants of both vehicles.
