The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened at 11th and Mitchell at about 3:15 a.m. on July 30. A 30-year-old Milwaukee man was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am northbound on S. 11th Street when he failed to stop for a red traffic signal at W. Mitchell, causing the Grand Am to collide with an eastbound 1992 Honda Accord. Following the collision the Grand Am collided with a building on the northeast corner of 11th and Mitchell. The 30-year-old driver of the Grand Am suffered significant injuries as a result the crash and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The Honda was driven by a 28-year-old Milwaukee man who also suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash. He is also undergoing treatment at a local hospital. A 27-year-old woman from Milwaukee who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Honda died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The Milwaukee Police Department will refer the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges should the driver of the Grand Am survive.
