Milwaukee Police officers shot and fatally wound a homicide suspect after he confronted them armed with a knife.
On Saturday, July 23rd at about 12:25 a.m. Officers responded to the 2500 block of N. 5th Street to investigate a stabbing. The victim, a 64-year old Milwaukee man, was stabbed by the suspect, a 49-year old Milwaukee man. The suspect fled the area and the victim died from stab wounds while being transported by MFD to the hospital.
As the investigation continued, the suspect returned to the scene around 2:15 a.m. and charged at officers, outside of a residence, while holding a knife. Multiple officers discharged their firearms striking and fatally wounding the suspect. A knife was recovered next to the suspect.
The suspect has an arrest record with the Milwaukee Police Department, is a convicted felon, and is on probation for strangulation.
Officers involved will be placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure. The Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation will be investigating the officers’ use of force.
Further information about the incident, including officers’ ages and identities of the homicide victim and suspect will be released in the coming days.
