District 5 Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect Minutes After Crime

Alert officers from District 5 of the Milwaukee Police Department identify and arrest a burglary suspect just minutes after he committed the crime. The officers were on patrol in the area of N. 20th Street and W. Burleigh Street around 8:30 pm on January 11 when they observed a man in an alley carrying a flat screen television. The officers stopped to talk to the man who claimed he was fighting with his girlfriend and took the television from a nearby residence in the 3100 block of N. 20th Street. Upon inspection of the house, they found a broken window and broken blinds. Some of the missing slats from the blinds were found in the suspect’s pants. The homeowner later confirmed the burglary and that she did not know the suspect.

Officers also found the victim’s wallet and two cell phones on the suspect, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man. During questioning with detectives, he confessed to the burglary. The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
