Officers from Districts 5 and 7 of the Milwaukee Police Department arrest a suspect accused of selling stolen property and a suspect with drugs on their person in separate incidents at the same scene. Police set up an operation to recover stolen property after the victim, a 43-year-old Milwaukee man, reported the burglary of several electronic and sound equipment from his garage in the 3500 block of W. Hampton Avenue on January 11. The victim noticed his specific equipment being sold on Craigslist and by working with MPD officers set up a transaction to buy back the equipment. This transaction took place in a parking lot in the 4000 block of N. Green Bay Avenue the same day. A 26-year-old Milwaukee man arrived at the scene to sell the equipment and officers took him into custody for receiving stolen property. They also found marijuana in his vehicle. When detectives later questioned him, the suspect denied taking part in the original burglary and stated that he legitimately bought the stolen items. He now faces charges of receiving stolen property and drug possession charges. His case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
While officers were conducting the Craigslist sting in the parking lot, they noticed a 29-year-old West Allis suddenly run from the scene when officers arrived. Officers found that he had disposed of cocaine and $2600 in cash while fleeing and arrested him. He now faces drug possession charges and his case will also be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
