District Five officers from the Milwaukee Police Department arrested a convicted felon while he was still at the crime scene of an attempted burglary. Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of W. Burleigh Street at about 1:20 a.m. on September 18 after a caller reported someone was trying to break into his business. When police arrived on the scene, they noticed a man matching the description of the suspect sitting on the steps of the business. The caller told police he noticed the suspect prying at the windows with a tool and attempting to break in. When officers took the suspect into custody, they found a screwdriver in the sweatshirt he was wearing. The suspect is a 20-year-old Milwaukee man and has a previous felony conviction of Driving or Operating a Vehicle without an Owner’s Consent. He also has two misdemeanor theft convictions. Milwaukee Police will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
