Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn describes the ethical and reasonable decision by an officer while mediating a dispute between two parties. Chief Flynn also expresses his concerns about misleading reporting by a local media outlet and its effects on the public’s confidence in its police department.
The officer was flagged down by a taxi driver after a man had broken a window of his cab. The taxi driver did not want to press charges against the man, however he did want restitution for the broken window. The man agreed to pay for the damage. The officer took the man to an ATM and after withdrawing the money, the officer counted it out in front of the camera and the two left the bank together. The money was then given to the taxi driver thereby satisfying the victim.
