Chief Addresses Media on Recent Rash of Robberies

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn addressed the media on Friday, September 12 about the department’s strategic deployments to put an end to the recent rash of robberies happening across the city. This comes after Milwaukee Police made another arrest of a robbery crew.  On September 11, after a brief pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle crashed in to a light pole in 2700 block North 60th, Milwaukee Police arrested a 4th robbery crew of two 14 year old males, one 16 year old male, one 18 year old male, and two females who are 16 and 17 years old.  Since September 1st, Milwaukee Police have arrested four robbery crews totaling 18 people, 14 on whom are juveniles. The investigation has been able to link the suspects to 56 robberies and it is believed that they could be responsible for more than 100 robberies that occurred throughout the summer.  One suspect admitted to stealing 60 cars since the beginning of the summer and fleeing from police who attempted to stop him more than 10 times.  We remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings when they are walking, especially at night.  “Take the ear buds out and put the cell phone away,” Chief Flynn said. “We don’t want to blame the victims here, but the majority of the people robbed have had their head down and were using their smart phones at the time.”
