Bicycle Stop Turns into Fugitive Arrest

May 30th, 2012 by milwaukeepolice

A stop of a man riding his bicycle illegally turned into a the arrest of a dangerous fugitive for two observant Milwaukee Police Officers.

Tuesday morning at 12:46 a.m., District 7 Officers Matthew Phillipson and Martez Ball were patrolling in the area of N. 49th St. and Fond du Lac Avenue when they conducted a subject stop of a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk without a light.

The subject fled and was taken into custody a short distance from the original stop. The man refused to provide his name to officers but after he was taken into custody, he was identified as Maurice D. Clemons. A wanted check revealed that Clemons was wanted by the U.S. Marshals in the Western District of Michigan for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, Homicide.

Sometimes the subject stops for the little things turn into the big stories! Nice work by these District 7 officers.
