Here are the cases and the suspects who have been charged:
On July 13, 2012 at 11:12 a.m. the Tri- City Bank in Wauwatosa at 10859 W. Bluemound Rd. was robbed. Wauwatosa squads that saturated the area spotted the suspect and arrested him. The suspect’s physical description and method of operation were similar to several Milwaukee bank robberies. The suspect, Michael R. Levitson, already was on parole for a 2006 bank robbery of the M & I Bank at N. 76th St. and Bluemound Rd. He was charged with four counts of robbery of a financial institution.
He is believed to have robbed the following banks for money to support a drug habit:
1. Tri City Bank 5-29-12, 3378 S. 27 St.
2. North Shore Bank 6-8-12, 4232 W. Oklahoma
3. Associated Bank 6-8-12, 2590 N. Downer
4. Tri City Bank 6-25-12, 3378 S. 27 St.
5. Layton State Bank 5-26-12, 2740 W. Forest Home Ave.
In another robbery, Marqual S. Harmon was charged with one count of robbery of a financial institution for the robbery of the PNC Bank, 6055 W. Lisbon Ave. on July 11, 2012. He also confessed that he took the money to support a drug habit.
The bank robbery detectives have cleared 74 percent of the bank robberies so far this year. Their expertise in investigating these crimes, gathering the evidence and then questioning the suspect makes the MPD’s unit one of the best in the country.
