August 16 Morning Update on Disturbances

Please see below for updates on the recent disturbances near N. Sherman Boulevard and W. Burleigh Street that began on Saturday, August 13.

SATURDAY 8/13 EVENING/SUNDAY 8/14 MORNING:

*17 total arrests made

-8 Adult Males for State Disorderly Conduct

-3 Adult Females for State Disorderly Conduct

-2 Juvenile Males for State Disorderly Conduct

-3 Adult Males for Burglary

-1 Juvenile Male for Burglary

*48 ShotSpotter calls between 8am-3pm in the area from 30th-51st and Keefe to Center

*6 squad cars damaged

-1 unmarked squad set on fire

-1 marked squad smashed by rioters

-1 marked squad struck by round to trunk area

-Bearcat struck by 8 rounds of gunfire—two to the windshield

-1 squad and 1 wagon were struck by bricks, breaking windows

*6 businesses set on fire

-BP Gas Station at 43rd and Burleigh

-O’Reilly Auto Parts at 35th and Fond du Lac

-Jet Beauty at 35th and Burleigh

-BMO Bank at 36th and Burleigh

-Liquor Stores at 22nd and Fond du Lac/21st and Hopkins

*A 16-year-old female was shot near 43rd and Burleigh; She was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries

*No reported uses of force

*4 injured officers

-1 struck by a piece of concrete thrown at squad

-1 struck by concrete thrown at arm

-1 struck by concrete thrown at shin

-1 injured by flying glass

-All were treated, released, and are recovering at home

SUNDAY 8/14 EVENING/MONDAY 8/15 MORNING

*14 Total Arrests

-11 Adult Males for State Disorderly Conduct

-3 Adult Females for State Disorderly Conduct

*30 ShotSpotter calls between 8 PM and 3 AM in the areas bounded by Center to Keefe, 51st to 20th

*3 squads damaged

-Bricks thrown at two of them

-Bearcat struck by two rounds to the windshield

*1 Auto Fire

*Number of dumpster and one couch fire

*One store suffered broken front windows

*Non-fatal shooting: 18-year-old male suffered a single gunshot wound to the neck at 11:00 p.m. at 43rd and Burleigh

*1 reported use of force

*7 injured officers

-4 Milwaukee County Sheriff Deputies injured by flying rocks/bricks to the knee, ankles, hands, and shoulders

-MPD District One officer suffered an injury to his right foot from a brick

-Two NTF officers from MPD suffered glass fragments to their eyes when concrete came through the windshield of their squad.

-All were treated, released, and are recovering at home

MONDAY 8/15 EVENING/TUESDAY 8/16 MORNING

*10 Total arrests

-1 Adult Male for Disorderly Conduct

-3 Adult Males for Various Warrants

-4 Adult Males for Loitering/Prowling

-1 Adult Female for Loitering

-1 Juvenile for Loitering

*Zero Injured Officers

*Zero Damaged Vehicles

*Zero Fires or Damage to Businesses or Residences
