Armed Suicidal Suspect Shot By MPD Officer

An armed suspect who was wielding a knife and threatening suicide was shot by a Milwaukee Police officer when the suspect refused to drop the weapon Wednesday evening.

Officers were sent to the call of a subject with a weapon at a home in the 7200 block of West Mill Road at about 8:15 p.m. on April 24. When the officers arrived they encountered the 45-year-old man in the living room of the home armed with a knife. The officers made several demands for the suspect to drop the weapon but the suspect refused to comply. One officer then discharged his handgun, striking the suspect.

The suspect was treated by Milwaukee Fire Department personnel who were already on scene, however the suspect succumbed to his injuries. The officers were not injured.

The officer who shot the suspect is a 29-year-old male with nearly 3 years of service on the Milwaukee Police Department. He is assigned to District 4.

As is standard operating procedure, the incident is under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. Additionally, per procedure, the officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation.
