Another Arrest Thanks to iPhone App – And Great Police Work

There’s no app for good police work, but the combination of an iPhone locator and diligent officers solved a recent armed robbery.

On Wednesday, June 27, District 7 Officers Joseph Sedlacek and Joseph Zingsheim worked with Anti-Gang Unit Officers on an armed robbery in the 4900 block of West Fond Du Lac Avenue. Police Officer Joseph Esqueda tracked the victim’s cell phone using the iPhone locater and within minutes was able locate the phone at a nearby residence. After quickly setting up containment on the residence the officers conducted a knock and talk at the address.

Upon entry, one subject matching the suspect’s description was quickly located in the back bedroom after he discarded some of the property taken in the robbery. The second subject was found hiding behind the TV in the bedroom of his paralyzed mother.

The firearm that was described in the robbery, as well as the wallet, proceeds and phone were all recovered. The two subjects were taken to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for questioning regarding this robbery, as well as other crimes for which they may be responsible.
